Vengeance Arrives as Complete Edition in June

Update 21/02/2024: Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance has been announced with a June 21 release date following a series of leaks.Announced during the Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase on February 21, the complete edition will seemingly be a Nintendo Switch exclusive.”Forge your path through a post-apocalyptic world in this definitive version of Shin Megami Tensei 5,” the official announcement said. “Two complete story paths await, including a brand new storyline with new locations and demons, and where your choices will determine the fate of all existence.”Original Story 19/02/2024: Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance was rated in South Korea as a complete edition of the Nintendo Switch role-playing game before being quickly removed. As reported by Gematsu, the rumoured complete edition of Shin Megami Tensei 5 appeared on South Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee website, which consistently leaks unannounced games. This listing has since been removed alongside a message board post on South Korean website Ruliweb.Shin Megami Tensei: Vengeance would be a revamped version of the original, which launched exclusively on Switch in 2021, with various improvements and even additional content. A well-know leaker said this complete edition was in development back in June 2023 too, as reported by Gematsu at the time. There’s also precedence for an updated version as publisher Atlus did the same with Shin Megami Tensei 4, by releasing Shin Megami Tensei 4: Apocalypse three years later. As the fifth game launched in 2021, this would make 2024 a likely release year for its complete edition.Atlus has also found huge success in its rereleases of the Persona franchise — which emerged as a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei — through the likes of Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal. It most recently released Persona 3 Reload, but this was a full remaster instead of a complete edition. In our 8/10 review of the base game, IGN said: “Shin Megami Tensei 5’s excellent JRPG combat and deeply rewarding customization shine bright, even when it sometimes feels like Persona without the heart.”Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He’ll talk about The Witcher all day.
