Ubisoft Confirms the Development of Driver Related Projects, While Confirming the Cancellation of the Live-Action Series

The Driver series is a long-running driving video game developed by Ubisoft. The franchise has received five instalments since 1999, with three platform-exclusive games. However, since 2011, it has not received a mainline instalment for the franchise. Interestingly, there was a TV series based on the franchise in development, too, which has been cancelled, but a new game might still be on the cards.

The publisher spoke about The Driver franchise in an interview with Game File’s Stephen Totilo. When asked about the franchise’s future, Ubisoft revealed that they are “actively working on other exciting projects related to the franchise and can’t wait to share more information”. This statement doesn’t confirm that a game is arriving, but it gives players hope for a new Driver game on the current-gen consoles and PCs.

A TV series based on the Driver franchise was also being developed for Binge, a free OTT platform focused on gamers. Announced back in 2021, the live-action series was to centre on John Tanner, an ex-racecar driver who turns into an undercover agent to take down the local crime syndicate. However, Binge was supposed to arrive in 2022, but that hasn’t happened yet. And now Ubisoft has confirmed that the development series for the platform has been cancelled.
