Timothée Chalamet Gives a Dune 3 Spoiler Ahead of the Release of Dune 2, Confirms the Return of a Major Character

Dune 2 should have originally been released a month ago on November 3, 2023. However, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood caused the movie’s delay, and it is now set for release on March 15, 2024. Even before Dune 2 is out, actor Timothée Chalamet has already confirmed the return of a key character in the franchise, but the interesting bit is that the return will happen in Dune 3.
Dune 3: character return update
It is no surprise that Dune 3 will be taking place. Director Denis Villeneuve recently told South Korean press (via Variety) that Dune 3, based on Frank Herbert’s novel Dune Messiah, is currently being written. The screenplay is almost finished, as per Villeneuve.
So, it also should not come as a shock to see Chalamet drop a big update for Dune 3 in such a nonchalant like he just did in an interview with MTV. Chalamet confirmed that Jason Momoa’s Duncan Idaho will make his return in Dune 3.

Timothee also made it a point to mention that this update is not a spoiler since the books have been out for so long and that he also finds it “weird” that the filmmakers are “so secretive about the script and about the trailer” when the “they’ve (books) been out there for 70 years.”
In fact, Dune Messiah came out in 1969, so pretty much the entire plot for Dune 3 is already available out there. However, not everyone is going to be reading the novels to update themselves with the story and are looking forward to seeing the plot unravel on the big screen. There’s also a bit of digression and creative liberties that come into play when adapting a novel series, so there are still going to be some unique factors about the movie in terms of storytelling.
