The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 Publisher CD Projekt Red Is Aiming To Release Future Games More Frequently

CD Projekt, the publisher behind series such as The Witcher and its now-hit Cyberpunk 2077 game, says that they are looking to release titles more frequently than they have in the past. The aim was revealed during the quarterly earnings call on Tuesday, where CD Projekt also touched upon their current projects in development.

The studio’s joint CEO Michał Nowakowski was quizzed about the CD Projekt Red bandwidth, as they are currently handling the development of more than a single AAA title. He answered (as reported by VGC), “We already worked on two projects at the same time when we worked on [Cyberpunk 2077 DLC] Phantom Liberty because that was a game-sized project with almost 300 people working on it, and at the same time we have already been working on Polaris, so we’ve had an experience of working on more than one project.”

Polaris here refers to the codename for the upcoming Witcher 4 title. Nowakowski also listed out that the Cyberpunk 2 title is being developed in their newly-established Boston studio, whereas the Polaris project is being developed in Europe. Moreover, he mentioned that there are other teams who are currently working on Project Sirius in association with developer The Molasses Flood, for the multiplayer-based spin-off of The Witcher.

After explaining that these projects are being simultaneously developed, Nowakowski said that fans can “definitely expect us to release more titles and the cadence of launches is something we definitely plan to increase, although I will obviously not comment on what is the space between the projects time wise.”

The typical time between each major CD Projekt game release has been roughly four to five years. The first Witcher game was released in 2007, and its sequel came out four years later in 2011, and the most acclaimed title in the trilogy, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt took another four years before its release in 2015. After that, came Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020, which was a five-year gap since The Witcher 3.
