The Leica-inspired Thypoch Simera lenses are now available for the Z/E/X/RF mounts

Thypoch is a relatively new company. It was only last year when they announced their Simera 35mm and 24mm lenses, which we already covered and reviewed since. But, these lenses were available only for the Leica M mount, and while it is a very adaptable mount system, it did force you to buy a Leica M adapter for your system. Well, Thypoch said, “No more!” and so they are now launching new versions of the Simera lineup for the Z/E/X/RF mounts for $649/€609.

The changes to the Thypoch Simera lenses

The new versions of the Thypoch Simera 35mm f/1.4 & 28mm f/1.4 are similar to the original Leica M versions. The changes aren’t optical nor aesthetic; the lenses still feel “Leica-like” in their design. Instead, Thypoch made small quality-of-life adjustments to the control of the lenses.

The previous M mount version had a non-constant resistance across its focus ring, which increased and had a “bump” at 0.7m. This is because most Leica M rangefinders can only focus up to 0.7 m. However, as that is not the case with mirrorless cameras, the focus is smooth all the way with the new mounts.

The other change is also focus-control related. The new version of the Simera replaces the old infinity lock design with a new crescent-shaped focus tab, making focusing a bit easier thanks to improved ergonomics.
