Terry Pratchet’s Discworld Getting Tabletop RPG and Board Games

The Discworld novel series from late author Terry Pratchett is getting a tabletop role-playing game adaptation alongside multiple board games. As reported by Dicebreaker, Discworld: Adventures in Ankh-Morpork, will be the first Discworld TTRPG in more than 25 years, with Pratchet himself co-designing the previous entry for release in 1998.The new game is being designed by Star Trek and Dune TTRPG creator Modiphius with the full backing of Pratchett’s estate, though doesn’t yet have a release date. Modiphius is launching a Kickstarter to fund the project in late 2024.The Discworld TTRPG will be set within the city of Ankh-Morpork, home of the City Watch and several other guilds, and explore elsewhere in the fantasy universe too. “Terry had a lifelong affection with role-playing games and it’s an entirely logical path along which you can follow his career from dungeon master to him becoming one of our most celebrated and beloved fantasy authors of all time,” said Pratchett’s longtime assistant and manager Rob Wilkins of the announcement. The several board games are also coming from Modophius and will be based around Discworld novels such as The Colour of Magic, Night Watch, Going Postal, and more. Nothing else was said about these at the moment.TTRPGs and board games based on major fantasy franchises have become increasingly popular over the last several years, with Diablo, Dark Souls, and Avatar: The Last Airbender all getting adaptations. Board games are similarly popular, with The Witcher getting a second one to go alongside its own TTRPG and even the likes of The Last of Us getting in on the tabletop action.Image Credit: TerryPratchet.com / Paul KidbyRyan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter.
