Sony Might Adjust the Difficulty of the Game According to Your Personal Experience in the Future

Sony PlayStation is one of the industry leaders in gaming and it has managed to retain this position for a number of years now thanks to all the new innovation they bring with every generation of consoles. These innovations generally go through long process of first being patented, then approval and then entering development before being presented to the players. Interestingly, a new patent by Sony talks about adjusting the game difficulty according to player experiences.

Spotted by Exputer, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s new patent, talks about a device that goes over your head in order to track and understand emotional data. The patent’s name has been set as Affective Gaming System and Method. Through the data they collect through this new system, the game will automatically change the difficulty of the game according to how the player is feeling at the time.

The patent’s description talks about how in a multiplayer video game, not all players get to experience the game how the developer intended them too. Due to this many players could end up feeling dissastisfied or even isolated in the game. Hence, this invention has been designed to mitigate this issue and provide a satisfying experience for all users.

Coming to the way they will implement this feature, the patent gives an example of a horror game, where if the player isn’t feeling that scared or intimidated by the game, then the game might reduce their health, increase the volume of the sound effects or even lower the screen brightness in order to make the player’s experience resemble other. On the other hand if the player is feeling too scared or feeling the game is too difficult then their health might increase and they might receive other kind of aids to help them in this situation.
