Shimbol has announced the new Shimbol TP Mini ($89) HDMI video transmission system. Comprised of a dedicated transmitter and receiver, it boasts up to 600ft line of sight range over 5GHz radio, with a low 70ms latency.
Its claimed features are nothing new, but at this price point, they certainly seem to be. While many other wireless video transmission systems cost several hundred or thousands of dollars, this is only $89.

Wireless video transmission used to be limited to the realms of TV and movie studios. But as video has gotten into the hands of everyday people, so have its tools. HDMI video transmission has been popular amongst mirrorless shooters and solo creators for a few years.
We have a range of products from companies like Hollyland, Accsoon, Teradek and more. But many of these are very expensive. Now, that expense is often justified. You need the highest level of reliable performance and range.
So how does Shimbol do it for only $89? Well, that remains to be seen. On paper, its specifications are quite similar to many units at 4-8x the price. But there have to be some sacrifices at that price point. One, is that it’s limited to only 1080p, but what are the rest?
There are a number of reviews on YouTube and social media already for the Shimbol TP Mini, and some have suggested that the Shimbol TP Mini is a little more prone to signal loss than more expensive units, but if you’re working fairly close to the cameras, without walls in the way, that shouldn’t be much of a concern.
As to the other limits, I guess we’ll find out as we start seeing more of them put to the test side by side.
