The latest film in the long-running anime shonen series One Piece, One Piece Film: Red, is set to stream on Netflix in India starting December 15, 2023.
The film premiered in Indian theatres on October 7, 2022, debuting across 172 theatres in numerous cities in India with both Japanese and Hindi dubs. PVR Pictures, the distributor of One Piece: Film Red in India, organised early fan screenings across the country ahead of its official release.
The story of One Piece Film: Red takes place on an island hosting the debut public performance of Uta, the world’s renowned diva. Among the multitude eagerly anticipating her voice are the Straw Hats, led by Luffy. However, the story gets a twist with the startling reveal that Uta is the daughter of Shanks.
The 15th instalment of the One Piece franchise premiered in Japan on August 6, securing the top spot in the Japanese box office during its opening weekend. It achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the franchise’s top-selling and highest-grossing film to date, measured by both ticket sales and box office revenue in yen. One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda served as the executive producer, with Goro Taniguchi directing based on a script penned by Tsutomu Kuroiwa.
The English voice cast for the movie includes YouTube star AmaLee, voicing the character of Uta.
One Piece Film: Red received an impressive score of 9/10 in IGN’s review, hailed for understanding and capturing the essence of the series, “with some catchy songs to boot.”
