It’s not cheap and it certainly isn’t quiet when you’re moving your mouse about in a hectic gaming session, but it does give a smooth experience with good mouse tracking, and grips well to the desk beneath. Pros Looks fantastic Extensive RGB customization options Smooth mouse tracking Grippy base Cons Expensive Hard, textured surface creates a lot of noise Design & Aesthetics The Firefly V2 Pro is available in black or white variants (though the main mat section is a colorless translucent in both cases), with all models coming with a hard-shell, textured plastic surface. The mousepad is powered via a braided USB-C to USB-A cable, which is of a good quality, which plugs into the USB-C port on the top/back of the mousepad. There is also a USB-A port which you can use to plug in the wireless receiver of a wireless mouse, minimizing the distance between the mouse and the receiver (which would otherwise be plugged into your computer), thereby minimizing the risk of interference. The pad has fifteen different lighting zones in total which can be individually customized in different ways using the onboard software. Software The Firefly V2 Pro uses Razer Chroma Studio software for any customization and for its proper function; when you plug in the mouse pad you are prompted to download and install this. There are a good number of effects you can add including: ambient awareness, audio meter, breathing, fire, reactive, ripple, spectrum cycling, starlight, static, wave, and wheel and most of these can be combined or layered on top of each other and each modified in different ways (speed, color, density, duration etc.). You can also put a different effect onto each of the fifteen separate lighting zones, which is very nice. Performance We tested the Firefly V2 Pro over a number of games of different types, from fast-paced multiplayer shooters to more sedate singleplayer and strategy titles, as well as just in general productivity scenarios. In gaming we found the action, at least on the mouse we used with 100% PTFE feet, to be very smooth, but the textured, slightly gritty surface did also provide a degree of accuracy when coming to an abrupt spot to line up a headshot for example. In short, it’s a pretty great gaming pad. The main downside of the Firefly V2 Pro is that movement on the pad can get quite loud, especially if you do any fast and/or drawn-out movements, though this is somewhat to be expected with a hard-surface pad. Still, for general use or gaming where you aren’t using headphones, it might get annoying for some, particularly if you’re surrounded by other people. Price Given the Firefly V2 Pro is currently a pretty unique product, the $100 asking price, whilst undeniably expensive, is not too unreasonable. Ultimately you can buy other gaming mousepads and full-size desk-covering mousemats for half this price or less, but there are also others, like the Razer Strider Chroma, which cost more; none of these have the full RGB backlighting though.
