MCU Actor Ben Mendelsohn Would ‘Give His Eyes and Teeth’ to Play Doctor Doom

Warning: This story contains spoilers for Secret Invasion. You can read our full series review right here.Actor Ben Mendelsohn has revealed that he really wants another MCU role, this time starring as Fantastic Four supervillain Doctor Doom.Speaking with GQ, Mendelsohn expressed a desire to return to the MCU now that Talos has met his tragic death. The actor didn’t seem to have to give too much thought to which Marvel character he would like to tackle next, as he name-dropped Doctor Doom as his dream role and one that he would love to get to grips with.”I would almost give my eyes and teeth to play Doctor Doom,” Mendelsohn declared. “I think Doctor Doom is the great unread Marvel character that could and should be done. But it is what it is. I got to work with Spielberg, and I got to work with Terrence Malick, and I got to work with Ridley Scott. It’s been incredible.”Mendelson has shown his villainous side before playing Director Orson Krennic in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Nolan Sorrento in Ready Player One, though he is best known to the MCU crowd for portraying the Skrull Talos in Captain Marvel, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the Disney+ series Secret Invasion.Talos, however, met his maker in the fourth episode of Secret Invasion after aiding in the rescue of President Ritson during the attack on his motorcade. Gravik, disguised as a solider, helped Talos to escape the fray, only to stab him in the heart right in front of Nick Fury, closing the book on Mendelsohn’s character.Marvel also recently announced the heroic cast line-up of The Fantastic Four, but there is no word yet on which baddies they will be going up against. Doctor Doom is a top contender, as the sovereign monarch of Latveria has been one of the Marvel Universe’s most dangerous and prolific villains since his debut in 1962.There is a chance Doctor Doom could show up elsewhere, with the recent Deadpool & Wolverine trailer sparking speculation over whether the character might be involved in the MCU multiversal adventure. Some fans thought they spotted him in the footage, though it is unconfirmed whether it was Doom or his doppelgänger.Actor Julian McMahon portrayed Victor von Doom in the 2005 Fantastic Four film and its sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, while actor Toby Kebbell played him in the 2015 reboot, but it is likely that we will see a fresh face take up the mantle. Rumors at this time, however, suggest Marvel may be eyeing Mads Mikkelson for the role. We’re only getting one MCU movie in 2024, the newly titled Deadpool & Wolverine, which is releasing in theaters on July 26. Ryan Reynolds reprises his role as Deadpool, with Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine, though he is now wearing his fan-favorite yellow and blue costume made famous by the X-Men comics.Adele Ankers-Range is a freelance entertainment writer for IGN.
