LG Reveals World’s Fastest 1440p OLED Gaming Display With 480Hz Refresh Rate and New OLED TV Lineup

LG has started 2024 with a bang as it made a wave of announcements ahead of CES 2024. The company has just announced the fastest OLED gaming display in the world, and its latest OLED evo TVs are also turning heads. There’s also a new 98-inch QNED Mini LED announced, and more details on it will be revealed at CES 2024, the first major tech event of the year.

LG reveals fastest OLED gaming display yet
LG, a display manufacturer, revealed a 27-inch OLED gaming display monitor which is capable of offering a staggering 480Hz refresh rate on a 1440p panel, making it the fastest OLED display yet. The company said that this display comes with LG’s “META Technology” which claims to offer the “lowest level of blue light in the industry” alongside better brightness and wider viewing angles. The 27-inch OLED 480Hz panel is planned for a launch in the first half of 2024, and LG said that they’ll reveal the “full lineup” during CES 2024, covering display size ranges from 27 to 45 inches.

AI processing in LG’s 2024 OLED TVs
LG’s new M4 and G4 series is equipped with their new Alpha 11 processor. The manufacturer has claimed that the new processor will offer “a 70 percent improvement in graphic performance and a 30 percent faster processing speed compared to its predecessor.”

AI is a big part of LG’s innovation as the company’s a11 chips in its upcoming OLED TVs will use “precise pixel-level image analysis, to effectively sharpen objects and backgrounds that may appear blurry.” The gist of it is that the AI processor will refine colours and the ‘Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro’ technology will divide a picture into blocks before improving its brightness and contrast.

It is important to keep in mind that LG has released four new OLED lineups: M4, G4, C4, and B4. The a11 chip’s AI capabilities are not available for the C4 and B4 series. LG has not shared the pricing for its 2024 OLED lineups but it may be revealed at CES 2024.

LG will offer five years of smart TV software updates
LG has also announced that it’s introducing a 98-inch QNED Mini LED at CES 2024, which will have webOS upgrades. The company will also offer five years of webOS updates for all its LG OLED TVs, even those launched in 2022. The smart TV updates will keep users’ TVs fresh with “up-to-date user experience” and keep menu navigation up-to-date as well.

VESA’s new “Dual Mode” monitors certification logo

VESA, a standards body in the display industry, has unveiled a new certification logo after LG’s announcement. Since LG’s upcoming monitors are one of a kind in terms of offering a “Dual Mode”, where you get 240Hz at 4K or 480Hz at 1080p, the new VESA logo will offer a certification mark for both forms of display resolution along with the refresh rate offered. VESA’s new certification logo will be given after putting a monitor’s flicker, response times, jitter, and more to test.
