John Wick’s David Leitch No Longer in Talks to Direct New Jurassic World Film

It looks like we won’t see a Jurassic World film from one of the filmmakers behind John Wick and Deadpool 2 after all. Just a few days ago, it was revealed that David Leitch was in talks to direct the new Jurassic World movie that’s currently in development. Today, however, Deadline reports that discussions between Leitch and Universal have fallen through, with the studio looking for a new director to take the helm. Per the report, the split was “amicable” and boiled down to Leitch and studio having “different visions” for the film.IGN has confirmed with Leitch’s reps that the Deadline report is accurate. Universal did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Scheduled for release on July 2, 2025, the upcoming movie promises to usher in a new chapter in the Jurassic saga. David Koepp, the screenwriter of the original Jurassic Park and its sequel, The Lost World, is set to write the script for this currently untitled Jurassic World film. The new movie is set to be a fresh take on the series, and Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are not expected to reprise their roles after starring in the trilogy that concluded in 2022 with the release of Dominion. Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern, who starred in the original Jurassic Park trilogy, are also not expected to reprise their roles in the upcoming project. The new Jurassic World would’ve continued a major hot streak for Leitch, who previously directed films such as John Wick (although only Chad Stahelski was credited), Atomic Blonde, Bullet Train, and Deadpool 2, with his next film, The Fall Guy, coming out on May 3. Nevertheless, the next Jurassic World film will obviously be a high-profile job for whoever’s eventually hired to direct. While Dominion was met with mixed reviews, it did cross $1 billion at the global box office, signifying that the Jurassic franchise is still a profitable IP for Universal. In our review of Jurassic World: Dominion, we said: “Nostalgia and new thrills make an interesting marriage in an imperfect but otherwise exciting Jurassic World Dominion.”Image Credit: JASON LAVERIS/FILMMAGICTaylor is a Reporter at IGN.
