iPhone 16 Pro May Be Worth the 5x Zoom and Bigger Battery

A versatile camera system has always been one of the greatest strengths of Apple’s iPhones. These are further improved in the iPhone 15 range with the introduction of a tetraprism or periscope camera, albeit being exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max (review). Now, a new report further iterated that this feature will arrive on the smaller iPhone Pro model in 2024 as well.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo was one of the sources who predicted Apple introducing the 5x telephoto camera in the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which was later confirmed when the new iPhones were launched. It was then expected that the feature would only be introduced in the iPhone 16 Pro, and this idea is supported by the leaker’s latest update.
Apple iPhone 16 Pro to share the 5x periscope lens with the Pro Max
In the note to Medium, Kuo mentioned Apple’s supplier Largan achieved a greater production yield for the optics that will be used in the tetraprism camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. As a result, the iPhone manufacturer is confident the number of components is enough to furnish the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max with this camera.
The report also laid the argument that Apple was unable to include the periscope camera in the iPhone 15 Pro due to space constraints to rest. Thus, the latest development indicates that this is more than just a design choice, and is related to the availability of the optics.
A bigger battery on the Apple iPhone 16 Pro
Following a report that Apple is switching to a metal-shielded battery in the iPhone 16, the same account now shared an alleged set of photos of the actual iPhone 16 Pro battery prototype. It is visible that the cell uses metal sheets all around and replaces the black covers of its predecessor. It is believed that using metal could aid it in controlling the thermals on the device.

Interestingly, the battery has a slightly increased capacity at 3,355 mAh or 2.5 percent more than the iPhone 15 Pro’s (review) battery at 3,274 mAh. Despite the new design and higher capacity, the battery is said to be even lighter. It is likely the reduced weight will make up for the extra heft that the other components bring, such as the rumored wider display.
It was not mentioned whether the other iPhone 16 models will receive the same battery capacity increase, given this year’s iPhone 15 range shipped with more battery life.
Apart from the iPhone 16 Pro, the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are reportedly sticking to the current LTPS OLED screen with a 60 Hz refresh rate. Looks like Apple is sticking to its decision to keep the ProMotion feature and zoom camera features to the iPhone 16 Pro duo alone.
