IGDC Announces Game Connect, a New Intitative To Promote Video Game Development Among College Students
The India Game Developer Conference (IGDC) has launched Game Connect, a new collaboration initiative to nurture the game development talent of college students with the help of colleges and game developers in the industry. The Game Connect opportunity is open to all Indian college students. Here’s all you need to know.
IGDC is hoping that various colleges in India promote the idea of Game Connect, and start a ‘Gaming Club’ in their college. Through Game Connect, IGDC is planning to host GameJam sessions of over 10 teams per college. College students in India have to register for Game Connect by filling out basic registration information such as a list of participants, their names, email IDs, phone numbers, as well as the courses they’re enrolled in. Furthermore, students also have to attach the contact number of a faculty member from their college.

IGDC has also laid out a problem statement, alongside resources, guidelines, and judging criteria to aid colleges in hosting these GameJams. The company has revealed that scoring will be based on the originality of an idea, how engaging the gameplay is, and how complete the game project is. IGDC is also providing participating colleges guidance on how to organise a game jam through pre-recorded tutorials, which also feature information on game design and technology.

GameJam session winners will receive free tickets to IGDC 2024 as well as the opportunity to intern at leading game studios in India. Participating colleges will also be part of the Game Connect discord community to facilitate a platform for communication between students and game development industry veterans.
Recently, IGDC provided IGN India with an official statement to showcase its support to the RMG (real money games) sector, highlighting the diversity of RMG business models.
