Helldivers 2 Doesn’t Run on Steam Deck With NProtect Anti-Cheat the Likely Reason; Players Highlight Crashes and Other Issues on PC
Helldivers 2, the latest third-person, squad-based shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios, was experiencing a great launch week until it was hit with a plague of server issues, game crashes and more on PC, which caused its Steam reviews to plummet. This led to the developers coming out and saying that they are in a “crisis mode” and are working hard to find the fixes for these problems. At the same time, some players are talking about the issues they are having while running the game on Steam Deck.
Helldivers 2 Incompatible with Steam Deck
It is worth noting that Helldivers 2 is not Steam Deck verified yet, but that hasn’t stopped anyone from playing games on the handheld device. The story seems to be different with this title, though, seeing the problems it’s already facing on PC. A recent post on the rSteamDeck subreddit shows the game being unplayable on the handheld device.

This post consists of a video that shows us the player trying to run the game with different compatibility settings, such as Proton and GE 8-30. But, in neither of the ways is the player able to get into the game. They have also provided a reason for why this game is not running on the handheld device, and the issue seems to be NProtect.
NProtect is a game security solution that helps developers stop players from hacking or using any malware in the game. However, players have already found a temporary workaround to the game not working on Steam Deck.

A user has suggested to changing the compatibility setting to Proton 7-49 and running the game on desktop mode. Then you need to reboot the game once, and then it should start responding after some time. However, some have noted that this works only till a section of the game, wherein you need to change your weapon at the armoury.
