Creator of OpenLara, an Unofficial Open-Source Engine, Led Development for the Game

Xproger, the creator of OpenLara Engine, has revealed on social media that he led the development for Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered. Aspyr Media, a subsidiary of Embracer Group, has remastered the first three titles from the Tomb Raider franchise.

OpenLara creator Xproger wrote on X that he was leading the development for the remastered trilogy. He came out with the statements to also notify those who are interested in the OpenLara project, that the open-source engine project is currently on hold. This also explained why there have been no updates from Xproger for the OpenLara project in the past year.

I’m grateful to the heads of @SaberGames for trusting me to lead the project and assemble a dream team of true fans. Thanks to @AspyrMedia for providing the source code for their Mac ports to us.Many thanks to Digital Forms for coming to our aid, you are great pros! (2/4)

“For the past year I’ve been busy with a dream project that has become the culmination of the last 8 years of my life – Tomb Raider I-III Remastered,” wrote Xproger. He thanked Saber Interactive for trusting him to lead the project and assemble “a dream team of true fans” for this remaster. He also thanked Aspyr for providing the source code for Macbook port over to his team for the development.
Xproger elaborated on the team, saying that they had “complete freedom and set ourselves an impossible goal, which could only be approached by a small “Development Team” of crazy people, ready to work 24/7 next year with an absolute vision of what and for whom we are doing.”

Thanks to the original developers and community, we eagerly read ALL your comments, interviews, reviews and reactions. The responsibility to all of you was higher than the fear of deadlines and the insane amount of work. (4/4)

The developer also made sure to highlight that the team went through all the comments from fans, as well as all the reviews and interviews around Tomb Raider, and mentioned that the responsibility to the fans was “higher than the fear of deadlines and the insane amount of work.”For those unfamiliar with the developer and his OpenLara project, the developer started work on the OpenLara project several years ago to bring the first five Tomb Raider remasters unofficially for the fans, making them playable on browsers. The developer gave consistent support for these titles and even added new features to them, such as a first-person mode. Xproger’s remastered titles improved the graphics on all five of these Tomb Raider games along with better framerates while fixing performance and compatibility issues.

Given the commitment of over eight years from Xproger, it is one of those stories where the project indeed went onto the shoulders of those who have been passionate about the Tomb Raider titles for so long. More on the Tomb Raider front, the new look for the iconic Lara Croft has just been revealed by Crystal Dynamics.
