Pre-Match Analysis:
It’s not a great sign for Sri Lankan cricket at the moment as they have entered the situation of must-win to stay in the tournament. They have been ordinary in all aspects and rightly deserved to be on the losing side. They were exposed to the unfamiliar conditions of Nassau County in their opening fixture where they bundled out for just 77 against South Africa and eventually lost the game by 6 wickets. No excuses for their narrow defeat at Dallas against Bangladesh in their second game where they could have done better, especially with the bat. Can’t rely too much on bowlers after posting just 124 on the board. Pathum Nissanka got them to a great start but threw his wicket away with 3 runs short of his half-century.
Wanindu Hasaranga’s back-to-back ducks put them on the back foot although he has done well with the ball, picking up 4 wickets. Nuwan Thushara’s 4-wicket haul against Bangladesh was the only positive takeaway from back-to-back losses. Persistent travel for every match is a main concern for them. With no wins at their disposal, they must collect a full four points from their remaining two matches to keep themselves alive in the tournament.
