Pre-Match Analysis:
Royal Challengers Bengaluru returned empty-handed from Chennai, losing to hosts Chennai Super Kings in the tournament opener by 6 wickets. Their hopes of ending 16 years of losing drought at Chepauk didn’t succeed. The challengers’ batting got exposed once again as they lost half of the side, almost at the halfway mark. Anuj Rawat who was lucky enough to be retained this year following his dreadful last season along with season campaigner Dinesh Karthik brought life into the game with a solid 95-run stand for the sixth wicket as they posted 173 on the board at the end of 20 overs. They maximized the allowed two bouncers per over to some extent but that backfired at the death. Cameron Green made a decent debut for RCB, scoring 18 runs and picking up a wicket. They are back in their home den and their batters must fire on a flat batting deck given their bowler’s miserable record at the venue.

Punjab Kings shifted their home base to newly constructed Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium at Mullanpur which proved lucky enough as they got a stellar start into the competition, beating Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets on Saturday. With some accurate bowling display, they held the revamped mighty Delhi batting line-up for 174. Later a well-watched innings from English all-rounders Sam Curran (63) and Liam Livingstone (38*) propelled them to a winning start with 4 balls to spare. They will be playing their remaining three matches away from home in the first phase which will be challenging.
