A new lens brand, Thypoch, has officially launched its Simera series of ASPH lenses: the Simera 35mm f/1.4 and 28mm f/1.4 (both $699). The lenses are full-frame and work with the Leica M mount system.
Both lenses were showcased successfully at Photopia Hamburg and Salon de la Photo in Paris, and were popular among manual and vintage lens lovers.
Simera means ‘today’ in Greek, and the brand is encouraging photographers to seize the day with these new lenses. Thypoch says the lenses are suitable for street photography, portraits, landscape and fine art shooting.
Image Quality
These lenses feature an f/1.4 aperture and a 14-blade diaphragm for soft bokeh. The lenses have floating elements which enhance image quality at close distances. Aspherical elements and unique optics design apparently help to reduce chromatic aberration and improve corner quality.
Mechanical Design
The lenses are designed for Leica M mount and are available in both silver and black. These lenses also offer automatic depth-of-field indicators. Minimum focusing distances are 0.45m (35mm) and 0.4m (28mm).
They support rangefinders for focus and have a focus ring with subtle resistance at 0.7 meters to indicate when to switch to an electronic viewfinder. Aperture ring adjustments include de-clicked and clicked modes for versatility between videography and photography.
