In 2022, DJI launched DJI Transmission. It was DJI’s solution for wireless camera streaming, and it wasn’t inexpensive. Now, DJI’s announced the new DJI SDR Transmission ($549) system, a more affordable video transmission system for filmmakers.
The original DJI Transmission system sells for around $2,500 for a transmitter and receiver kit. The new DJI SDR Transmission system, on the other hand, is much more in line with prices from companies such as Hollyland and Accsoon.
DJI SDR Transmission – Affordable wireless video
The DJI SDR (Software-Defined Radio) Transmission system is capable of transmitting video wirelessly up to 1080p resolution and a frame rate of 60fps. It boasts video transmission up to a distance of 3km, or around 1.8 miles with only 35ms latency.
That’s very impressive when most similar budget systems top out around a couple of hundred metres. For a direct comparison, the Hollyland Pyro H ($479) has a maximum range of around 400 metres and a latency of 60ms. The Accsoon CineView 2 SDI ($649), similarly, tops out at 450m with a latency of 50ms.
DJI says its SDR system allows for higher resolutions and bitrates. It’s also said to provide better penetration than more traditional 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless systems, so it should suffer from less interference from nearby devices and radio signals.
It also allows the transmitter and receiver to send not only a video feed but metadata, too. It also transfers the camera controls. It takes both HDMI and SDI connections and has a range of power options, including NP-F, USB-C, or a compatible DJI gimbal.
With this sort of range, it looks like some of the competition might have a little stepping up to do.

The DJI SDR Transmission system is available to buy now for $549 and has already begun shipping. The transmitter and receiver are also available individually at $309 each.
