BGMI Celebrates Its Third Anniversary, Highlighting Old Memories

Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), the popular battle royale mobile game by Krafton, recently marked its third anniversary since its launch in the country. The game was initially designed as an alternate version of PUBG Mobile for India, and has faced both ups and downs.

As BGMI celebrates its 3rd anniversary, Krafton has uploaded a video highlighting the game’s journey and achievements. The video gives a glimpse of all the content creator moments, streams, collabs with BGMI, and old memories from back in time. You can check it out below:

BGMI started its journey on July 2, 2021, with its launch on Android devices, followed by an iOS release on August 18 of the same year. The game was already quite popular among youngsters when it was known as PUBG, and now, launched as BGMI, it has gained rapid popularity, reaching over 153 million downloads on the Google Play Store by July 2022.

PUBG Mobile was banned in India in September 2020 due to data privacy concerns, as the game was published by Chinese company Tencent. However, in July 2022, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), the India-specific version published by Krafton, was also banned from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Following a 10-month ban, BGMI returned for a trial run starting May 19, 2023.

The game became available on May 27 for Android users and May 29 for iOS users. Beyond the game launch, Krafton hosts two major annual tournaments for BGMI esports: the BGMI India Series (BGIS) and the BGMI Pro Series (BMPS). Team XSpark won the BGIS 2024 finals.
