Godox launches yet another tiny microphone, the Godox WEC-S for Sony

Godox has been on a run with tiny wireless microphones lately. In March we saw the Godox WES ($99) and in April they announced the Godox Magic XT1 ($109-129). If you haven’t seen our review of the Godox Magic XT1 yet, you should check it out.

This time, it’s not an entirely new microphone system, but a Sony-specific version of the Godox WEC ($89), released at the end of last year. It’s the Godox WEC-S ($139), utilising the Sony multifunction shoe.

Godox WEC-S – Compact 2.4GHz wireless audio

The Godox WEC-S is functionally identical to the original Godox WEC. Of course, the standard Godox WEC will also work with Sony. The big difference with this version is that it’s designed specifically for the Sony multifunction hotshoe.

Using the multifunction hotshoe means it can ditch the wires. No more fumbling through bags looking for them. No more losing them on random shoots. One less potential point of failure during a recording.

There’s a microphone inside each transmitter, but there’s also another inside the receiver that sits in the hotshoe. With some Sony cameras capable of recording up to four tracks of audio, this allows you to interview people from the camera and still be heard or to record shot and editing notes during the filming process.

Each transmitter only weighs 12g, having very little impact on your subject’s clothing. You’re able to clip it onto your subject without it creating a big, heavy, distracting crease in your shot. They run for 8 hours on a full charge, and you get up to 21 hours with the charging case.

Price and Availability

The Godox WEC-S wireless microphone is available to pre-order now for $139 in a dual-transmitter kit or $99 in a single-transmitter kit.
