Pre-Match Analysis:
West Indies started their summer with a dominant 28-run win over South Africa in the 1st T20I. The game was set up well by skipper and local lad Brandon King who played some unbelievable shots during his 79 run-knock. They played with an unusual combination that lacked frontline batters which resulted in the massive collapse as they restricted from 134 for 3 to 174 for 8 at the end of 20 overs. The response from the bowlers was massive in the second half as they bowled the Proteas out for 147 runs. Matthew Forde and Gudakesh Motie’s magic with the ball did the trick with both picking up 3 wickets each. Obed McCoy’s contributions also made a difference as he removed Andile Phehlukwayo and Gerald Coetzee.
South Africa got the first taste of Caribbean calypso beats ahead of the T20 World Cup but they didn’t start well in the series, going down way too easily by 28 runs. Debutant Ottniel Baartman along with the company of all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo bowled exceedingly with both picking up 3 wickets each to keep the hosts for a gettable 175. Except for Reeza Hendricks who smashed 87 runs from 51 balls, the rest of the batters didn’t withstand the pressure of run-chase and threw their wickets away. It’s a show time for them to quickly regroup and back with a better game plan to stay in the series.
