A Spanish travel photographer and guide was killed in Ethiopia while working on a documentary series for a Chilean TV documentary series. The TV crew were working for Canal 13 via the production company MkZeta and had been filming the Mursi tribe prior to the incident. The tribe was not connected to the attack.
Catalan photographer Toni Espadas was killed when the crew was shot at by two individuals when leaving the day’s filming. The rest of the crew escaped unharmed.
“As Canal 13, we deeply regret the death of Toni, and from a distance, we send his family all our support,” the television station said.
Toni Espadas, born in Barcelona in 1969, specialised in travel and photography. He was considered something of an expert in Ethiopia and countries such as Uganda, Tanzania, Gabon, Eritrea, Benin, Angola and South Sudan and regularly organised tours spanning two decades.
Espadas frequently worked as an advisor in the region for television and film crews and worked as a fixer for the production of reports, documentaries, and television shows focusing on the study of African peoples and cultures, according to his website.
