Konvision A7S is a 7″ touchscreen monitor/recorder that records 4K60fps ProRes

Konvision has announced the new Konvision A7S. And no, it has nothing to do with Sony. It’s a 7″ 1920×1200 touchscreen monitor/recorder supporting up to 4K60 resolution signals with ProRes recording.

It has a bright 1,500 nits 10-bit display, capable of displaying over a billion colours. It supports both 12G-SDI and HDMI input and output, with all of the usual on-screen tools we’ve come to expect in 2024.

Konvision A7S – A feature-packed monitor/recorder

Obviously, the Konvision A7S is designed as a competitor to the Atomos Shogun (buy here). Both offer a similar feature set, although there are some obvious differences. The Shogun supports up to 6K resolution, and it provides ProRes RAW. The Konvision A7S does neither of those things.

But the A7S does support up to 4K resolution at 60fps with ProRes 422HQ, 422, LT and Proxy. It offers both HDMI and 12G-SDI input and output, and appears to be able to translate between the two. So, for example, you can take SDI out from the camera, and then pass HDMI from the monitor to a wireless video transmitter.

It also supports pre-roll recording. In 4K, when you hit the record button, it jumps back in time 2 seconds to start the recording. Very handy if you’re recording events with an unexpected start time – as long as you’re ready to react quickly.

Even if you’re not rushing to capture specific events, having some pre-roll recorded on your clips can help to make clips easier to edit together – especially if you need transitions. In 1080p, you get 10 seconds of pre-roll.

Footage is saved to a SATA SSD, which is stored in an internal slot. No proprietary storage required.

Hot-swappable NP-F batteries

It sports a pair of NP-F battery slots on the back, although it only requires one in order to get power. Two hot-swappable slots allow you to keep it running as you pull out and swap a dead battery for a fresh one.

It features all of the usual on-screen tools filmmakers require. So, you get the waveform, vectorscope, histogram, focus peaking, zebra stripes, and more. It also supports timecode, although they don’t specifically mention protocol or compatibility.

Overall, it looks pretty decent, although I’d be interested to see how this performs side-by-side against the Atomos Shogun or Shogun Ultra. The standard Shogun is significantly less expensive than the Konvision A7S.

Price and Availability

The Konvision A7S will be available to pre-order soon for a price of €1,336.93 in the EU. US pricing has not yet been announced. It’s expected to begin shipping in the coming weeks.
