PUBG’s highly anticipated update is now live for PC players and they can no enjoy a burst of nostalgia as they get to play in the original Erangel map again, it will arrive for console players on May 23, 2024. Yes, you read that right, PUBG followed Fortnite’s brilliant idea of the first map of the game back. Classic Erangel is now available through update 29.2 along with other changes towards weapons, UI, maps and more. Check out the highlights of PUBG Update 29.2 below.
PUBG’s Classic Erangel Map Now Live
After update 29.2, players will be able to play in Erangel Classic in the Normal Match mode as well as Custom Match mode. The developers have tried to “preserve the essence” of the original Erangel, by bringing its “distinctive appearance and atmosphere”. The original Erangel will be swapped out with the current Erangel map in the game. Moreover, the weaponry available on wooden tables on the starting islands is back. There are three weather types on the map, Sunny, Sunset and Overcast. Lastly, the Secret Room and Recall System are not available.

Weapon changes
Coming to weapon changes, Erangel Classic will have reduced recoil for players to relive the nostalgia, however, it won’t be identical to the old recoil. Other weapons and their stats will remain the same, only recoil will be changed. The Tommy Gun can now only be acquired through the care package and has been removed from World Spawn. It has a default drum magazine and an increased ammo count of 100 rounds.
UI and other updates
Moreover, the UI has seen some changes to, to bring back the feel of the old time. The UI has “reverted to the old version” and the elements that have been changed include “the world map, minimap, Blue Zone UI, match start timer, and kill/survival UI.” Team number, Screen Ping Marker and Waypoint are also available.
Lastly, Helmet (Lv.3) and seventeen classic skins have been added as world spawn items, flare guns will not bring you a bulletproof UAZ, fixed vehicles spots along with spawn spots for Esports vehicles and Motor Glider have been removed. PUBG Devs Wanted to Bring the Original Bugs Back Too with Classic Erangel
On the topic of Erangel Classic, a report by Gamerant reveals that devs were focusing on the feeling of nostalgia, so much so that they considered bringing the original bugs back too. The PUBG Production Director, Taehyun Kim stated that the “most nostalgic” part for the devs were the bugs of the old map. Kim thought the players would exploit those bugs with the new update, which is why they had to “consider a lot of things to decide whether to bring those bugs back”. In the end they decided to provide the Erangel Classic map with the bugs fixed. Would you have wanted the bugs to return?
