Pre-Match Analysis:
Revamped Pakistan who made a statement earlier that they would do experimentation in the series stuck to their words and handed T20I debuts to Abrar Ahmed, Irfan Khan, and Usman Khan in the 1st T20I. But the rain had different ideas and played a spoilsport allowing only two balls to bowl. Shaheen Afridi in the short space of time, cleaned up Tim Robinson with a perfect inswinging delivery that hit the top of the middle. The game also saw the comeback of Mohammad Amir who came out of retirement and made his first T20I appearance since 30th August 2020.

Meanwhile, the second-string New Zealand unit had a fresh face Tim Robinson who became the 101st capped player to represent the country in the shortest format however his innings lasted only two balls for no score. Dean Foxcroft, Josh Clarkson, Jacob Duffy, Ben Sears, and Ben Lister who have already made debuts in the T20Is got the opportunity in place of regulars. They will look forward to fielding the same eleven for the 2nd T20I on Saturday.
