Zack Snyder Reveals Why He Pursued Batman v Superman Before Man of Steel 2, as He Talks About the Importance of the ‘Martha Scene’
Zack Snyder, the American film director, producer and screenwriter, is known all over the world for his movies. Snyder’s rise to fame came from the 300 series, which helped him land the job at DC, which in turn churned out movies like Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and many more. Recently, Snyder gave interesting insights about why Batman v Superman was made ahead of Man of Steel 2 and the importance of the Martha scene in the movie.
Why Batman v Superman Before Man of Steel 2 Explained by Zack Snyder
Zack Snyder recently spoke to GQ (via Screen Rant), where he broke down his most iconic films. Coming to the topic of DC movies, Snyder first talked about why he had to reveal Batman’s view of things after the events of Man of Steel, instead of going for the sequel. Snyder stated that when “Bruce Wayne exists in the same world as Superman”, then you reach a “Batman concept” and that thought needs to be finished. He added that Man of Steel 2 could’ve been about Brainiac or something else, but had to be held off for a movie as he wanted to explore “Bruce’s take on the near-destruction of the world”, which is why Batman v Superman came before Man of Steel 2.

Snyder Talks About the Importance of the Martha Scene in Batman v Superman
In the same interview with GQ, Synder also spoke about the importance of the Martha Scene. Snyder explained that Chris Terrio, the screenwriter for the film, realised that both the superheroes’ mothers have the same name.
“Batman sees Superman as an alien, as a monster, but realises that his dead mother has the same name as this thing that he considers nonhuman”, Snyder added. He said that this was the only thing Superman could say to “to convince him that his love of humanity is as high as Batman’s” and the only reason he didn’t use the Kryptonite spear on him was due to Superman mentioning Martha’s name. It is a great thought if you think about it.
