Pre-Match Analysis:
Punjab Kings are finding it difficult at the closing stages of the game which has hampered their progress so far in IPL 2024. They played two of their matches last week at their new home Mullanpur where they lost both of them against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals by narrow margins. They almost pulled it back against table toppers Rajasthan Royals but not a great bowling effort from Arshdeep Singh in the last over made them lose vital two points. Before the game, they suffered a huge blow as they were without skipper Shikhar Dhawan who has been sidelined due to a shoulder injury and will miss the next two matches as well.

Top-order batting is a worrying thing for the management with a repeated flop show from Jonny Bairstow who has scored 96 from 6 matches so far this season, they might look for options beyond him and Rilee Rossouw is not far away from making a debut for his new franchise. Bowlers have done a commendable job, especially their trio Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, and Sam Curran who have scalped 26 wickets between them. Sam Curran will serve as a stand-in skipper until Shikhar Dhawan’s return.

A sensational unbeaten century from elegant Rohit Sharma didn’t stop Mumbai Indians from losing the game against their nemesis Chennai Super Kings in front of a packed Wankhede Stadium here on Sunday. Chasing a monumental 206 runs, they got off to a great start with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan adding 70 runs in just 7.1 overs. The asking rate pressure felt too heavy on their batters as they lost Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, and Tim David in the span of 16 deliveries that’s when the game shifted away from them. The former skipper Rohit Sharma brought up his 2nd IPL century in the final over of the game but it was too late in the end.

Earlier in the game, they were the culprits of leaking runs and allowed the Chennai batters to score easily. Their lethal weapon, Jasprit Bumrah was economical but went wicketless. Not giving a ball to Shreyas Gopal after he provided a breakthrough in his first over was debatable.
