Pre-Match Analysis:
Since their inception in 2022, Gujarat Titans have changed their captain for the first time with Prince Shubman Gill set to take charge of the side. Of course, the expectations are insanely high as they finished winners and runners in the last two years. To make it a little worse, their lead pacer Mohammed Shami ruled out of the tournament with an injury but they found a right-to-match replacement buying Umesh Yadav in the auction for a prize of Rs. 5.8 crore. To strengthen their pace battery much more, they bought Aussie left-arm paceman Spencer Johnson for Rs 10 crore. They needed a striker who could finish games hence they went with Shahrukh Khan and spent Rs 7.4 crore. Good news is that Kane Williamson is back after missing the last season with a knee injury which he sustained while saving a six against Chennai Super Kings. Seasoned spinner Rashid Khan who didn’t take part in the T20 Leagues post ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup has returned to competitive cricket for the 3-matches T20I series against Ireland and looking forward to his third stint with the Titans.

Mumbai Indians received mixed responses from their fans after they appointed Hardik Pandya as captain in place of Rohit Sharma. The management backed their decision, stating it was good from the team’s perspective in the long run. Rohit Sharma who led the side for the record 5 titles will play as a genuine batter for the first time in 11 years. Romario Shepherd, Gerald Coetzee, Mohammad Nabi, and Nuwan Thushara are their new overseas players along with Luke Wood who comes in place of injured Australian seamer Jason Behrendorff. Ishan Kishan who lost a BCCI central contract has a point to prove this year. Jasprit Bumrah was forced to skip the last edition due to a back injury is back and lead the bowling unit. U-19 South African rising star, Kwena Maphaka is their latest entrant who replaces injured Dilshan Madushanka.
