Analyst Claims Grand Theft Auto 6 Will Be ‘The Most Important Thing To Ever Release’ in Video Games Industry
Grand Theft Auto 6, perhaps the most anticipated title in recent years, will be released in 2025. An expert analyst says that the launch of GTA 6 by Rockstar Games is going to be the most important game to have ever been released in the history of the video game industry. Here’s why.
Mat Piscatella, an expert analyst with Circana, spoke to GamesIndustry.biz where he discussed the current financial state of the games industry, and stated that the current 2% drop in spending habits in 2024 is rather optimistic, and added that it could have been been worse.
“Right now my most optimistic outlook is down about 2%,” he said. “If you start looking a little bit on the more pessimistic side, you’re looking at down about 10%. If things really go sideways, you’re looking at a little bit more,” added Piscatella.
‘No pressure’ on GTA 6
Piscatella did acknowledge that it is going to be a “tough year” for the industry. However, he remains hopeful for 2025. He said that “if interest rates come down and money becomes a little bit more free-flowing” to developers and publishers, there will be a “boost in the development cycle again.”

“We’re going to get a renewed batch of interest with GTA 6 in particular. There’s probably never been a more important thing to ever release in the industry, so no pressure,” Piscatella said.
There’s not a lot of far-stretched claims in the statement about GTA 6. The popularity of GTA since the Vice City days has been in many ways, unparalleled. The franchise entered a league of its own with GTA 5 as the game broke economical records beyond the video games industry. It became the fastest-selling entertainment product in history as it earned $800 million on launch day, and crossed $1 billion in its first three days.
Influence of GTA 6
GTA 5 came out more than a decade ago but continues to have players engaged. Now with GTA 6 announced, the hype train for the game will not be slowing down. GTA 6’s trailer broke the record for most views on a non-music YouTube video in 24 hours. Even before the game has released, its influence speaks volumes. There have been brands and other development studios replicating Rockstar’s GTA 6 announcement, recreations of GTA 6 trailer by the likes of Hyundai, and even football stars waving a GTA 6-inspired flag after winning a match.
