Elden Ring is available on both the older gen and newer gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as of course on Windows PC – but what are the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree system requirements? This new expansion introduces tons of new content to the now-aging title, but it luckily looks like it has no effect on the current system specs required. We explain both the recommended and minimum specs below. Be sure to check out the Shadow of the Erdtree release date – we also answer whether this new Erdtree DLC is free, or not.
If aren’t sure of the specs of your current PC, check out our how to look up your PC specs compare them against the system requirements. If your current rig doesn’t cut the mustard, then please see further down this page for some suggestions of self-build and pre-built gaming PCs that would be ideal to play the game on.

Elden Ring sees Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki join forces with Game Of Thrones author George R. R. Martin to create yet another bizarre, over-the-top, dark fantasy, hack and slash title which can be as fiendishly difficult as the Dark Souls series was. Story-wise Martin has been responsible for helping to create the game’s world, which is another tale of “dead who yet live” fighting their way through a strange plane of existence.
Gameplay-wise Elden Ring is more open world than the aforementioned titles, and incorporates more stealth and RPG elements to the combat and gameplay. It looks glorious as well. The latest Shadow of the Erdtree DLC looks to add a ton of new content to give the game a refresh.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree system requirements
We can look at the Steam store page for SotE to gather the system requirements. As we write this, the specs are the exact same as Elden Ring itself, which makes sense. However, we do expect a hefty file size increase and perhaps some updated requirements when we get closer to the new DLC launch.
Elden Ring DLC Minimum system requirements

CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 3 3300X

GPU / Video Card: GeForce GTX 1060 3GB / AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 60GB
Operating System: Windows 10 or later (64-bit)

Elden Ring DLC Recommended system requirements

CPU: Intel Core i7-8700 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
RAM: 16GB RAM
GPU / Video Card: GeForce GTX 1070 8GB / AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB

What gaming PC do we recommend to play Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree?
To play Elden Ring on the lowest settings at 1080p, one of our $600 self-builds or a similarly powered machine will do the job nicely. If you want to turn things up to the max settings at 1080p however then a $1,500 build will be what’s needed. For 1440p or 4K resolutions you’ll probably want a $2,000 build.
If you don’t fancy the idea of putting your own PC together then a pre-build for under $800 should also manage to play Elden Ring on the lowest settings at 1080p with no issue. The highest presets at 1080p will again require something like a $1,500 pre-build however, and 1440p or 4K gaming will need a $2,000 pre-build, particularly on those higher settings.
Does Shadow of the Erdtree make Elden Ring harder to run?
No, based on what we’ve seen so far, there is no change to the system requirements. After all, the game is still running on the same engine as before, with the expansion introducing new content rather than an overhaul to the already-stellar graphics. By today’s standards, Elden Ring isn’t very hard to run at all.
One thing that will change for certain is the storage space requirement. We don’t yet know the exact file size considering both the original Elden Ring and SotE store pages list 60GB. Just to speculate, this is likely a combination of both the base game and DLC content together, as the current Elden Ring file size is 48GB on PC, leaving 12GB more for the new DLC.
