Man Gets Jail For Threating Mikasa Voice Actress Yui Ishikawa

A 25-year-old Japanese man named Fukuta Kishimoto has been sentenced to a year in jail after admitting to sending death threats to Attack on Titan’s Mikasa Ackerman voice actor, Yui Ishikawa.

ANN reported that the Tokyo District Court mentioned he had previously served time for a similar offence, but still made death threats again.

The prosecution sought an 18-month prison term for the man, but he was sentenced to 12 months. The prosecution disclosed that Ishikawa is deeply frightened by the threats, to the extent that she struggles to sleep at night due to fear.

The man, who was arrested in December, admitted that earlier in the year, he had posted on a message board declaring his intention to stab Ishikawa with a knife. He had previously been arrested in June 2020 for posting threatening messages aimed at anime staff and cast online, including Kemono Friends director Tatsuki and Ishikawa herself. Both of them filed police reports regarding the harassment, which ultimately led to Kishimoto’s arrest. The harassment even caused disruptions in anime production.

Yui Ishikawa is best known for her roles as Mikasa in Attack on Titan and as the titular character in Violet Evergarden. Her recent roles in anime include Mui in Undead Unluck and Lihua in The Apothecary Diaries.

Ishikawa has also contributed her voice to video game voice acting. She is the Japanese voice of Stelle in Honkai: Star Rail, Clorinde in Genshin Impact, and 2B in Nier: Automata.
