These non-Super Nvidia GPUs are finally dropping in price, and they’re good value

Non-Super RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Ti cards could be making a comeback Updated: Feb 9, 2024 3:33 pm WePC is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more Table of Contents Table of Contents As you may know, Nvidia refreshed some 40 series GPUs lately with the introduction of Super variants for the RTX 4070, 4070 Ti, and 4080. These updated models effectively replaced the older cards, but now some custom AIBs are dropping in price to make them worth considering yet again. Since the new Super graphics cards arrived on the market boasting the very same (or better in the case of the 4080 Super) price tags, they effectively replaced the older cards 1:1. With better performance for the same price, there was pretty much no reason to pick up a non-Super card, until now. We’re finally seeing some price drops to make the older SKUs worth your time if you don’t mind sacrificing a few frames per second. ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4070 RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Ti get price drops following Super launch Considering the RTX 4080 is still more expensive than Super, we’ll instead look over to the 4070 and 4070 Ti which are finally enjoying price reductions to combat their new and improved models. One example is the ASUS Dual RTX 4070, which has now been reduced to $529.99 against the $609.99 price tag of the Super equivalent, a decent saving if you’re on a tight budget. We also spotted the GALAX RTX 4070 currently retailing for $519.99, which is $80 under the MSRP. Now looking over to the RTX 4070 Ti, which is getting its price cut on Newegg. The MSI Ventus 2X model has been reduced to $749.99 – but tack on an extra $50 off with a limited-time promo code and it slides all the way down to just $699.99, a clean $100 cheaper than MSRP. Considering we were unable to find a 4070 Ti Super for less than $799.99, this is excellent value for money. Should I get a 40 series Super or non-Super GPU? In many cases, getting the Super card is the better choice – especially if you spot them at a similar price. That being said, the performance increases aren’t massive, particularly for the Ti Super which is just 6-11% faster than the original across all resolutions. The 4070 Super is a little more of an upgrade, showcasing 15-19% performance uplift. See our RTX 4070 Super vs 4070 and RTX 4070 Ti Super vs 4070 Ti guides for a comprehensive comparison. With price drops of around $80 or more for non-Super cards, it can still be worth getting the original – especially in the case of the RTX 4070 Ti Super which doesn’t perform as well as we expected given the improvements to the specs. Sure, it’s still better than the original, but not by much if you’re going to be paying substantially more.
