Actor Keanu Reeves recently accepted the Lance Reddick Legacy Award at the 51st Saturn Awards. Reeves also revealed details about a letter he wrote to the late actor Lance Reddick before he passed away.
Reeves portrays John Wick and worked with Reddick in the John Wick franchise, where Reddick played Charon, the concierge at New York City’s Continental Hotel. Speaking to People, Keanu Reeves revealed details about the letter he sent, where he credited Reddick as the reason why “people love John Wick.”
“He had such a passion and a fire for creativity, and for his craft, and for art. I had the chance to work with him on four films over the course of eight years, and over that time, we got to know each other better. But also, he had such a grace, and he was funny. I mean, humor-wise. I don’t know. I think favorite memory… it’s the scenes that I had with him and the relationship that he and John Wick had, Charon,” Reeves told People.

He added, “I once told him… Well, actually I wrote him a letter and I said, ‘people love John Wick because Charon loves John Wick.’ Because that character loved John Wick, that made John Wick okay. And so when I got to act with him, we had such an affection.” Reeves also said that working on Wick is a “once-in-a-lifetime project” and that he and Reddick both knew this, and loved working together on it.
Reddick passed away in March 2023, and the talented actor’s legacy has been respected across various works he has been a part of, including the Wick series. Reddick was also a popular figure in the video games industry, having voiced Commander Zavala in Bungie’s Destiny. Reddick received tributes from Hollywood and video games industry, as well as from Destiny 2 players, Percy Jackson and the Olympians finale, and Horizon: Forbidden West players.
