Roblox Announces AI-Powered Real-time Chat Translation in 16 Languages; Voice Translation Also in the Pipelines

Roblox, the virtual ‘universe’ where users create and share games with each other, has announced the introduction of automatic chat translations. Powered by Roblox’s proprietary artificial intelligence technology, users can now converse in chats with each other using their own preferred language from among the 16 that are supported.

Roblox has added a new automatic chat translation feature, which users of the platform can now experience. Roblox explains that a user can type a chat message in Korean, and the other user will see and read it in the language of their preference. Roblox’s proprietary artificial technology instantaneously translates the message of the sender for the receiver in the language of their choice.

Helping people connect in new ways is an integral part of our vision. And thanks to our new real-time AI chat translations, people are now able to communicate seamlessly with each other while speaking a different language. Read more on our blog. https://t.co/3n4dXp682E https://t.co/7PvcTJgLB5

Daniel Sturman, the Chief Technology Officer at Roblox says, “Our custom large language model is so fast we’re able to do real-time translations from any one of 16 languages to any of the others as people type to help them connect in real time, no matter where they’re from”. The 16 languages that Roblox supports include Chinese, both simplified and traditional, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Polish, and Vietnamese.

All experiences that leverage the use of Roblox’s TextChatService now feature automatic chat translation. Sturman says that Roblox has achieved something that “isn’t even possible in the physical world”. He also mentioned that Roblox is looking at a future where every part of the user’s experience is brought to them in their native language. AI-powered voice translation is also on the table to actualise this vision.
