Jim Carrey Returning as Robotnik for Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Despite his talk of retirement, Jim Carrey is officially returning to the world of movies at least one more time as he will again star as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.As reported by Variety, the exciting news was announced shortly after the movie’s logo was revealed, and that also has fans quite happy as it appears to be a nod to Sonic Adventure 2. The homage is a perfect one as Shadow the Hedgehog, who was teased in Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s post-credits scene, was the cover star of the game alongside Sonic. You all thought I was gone, but I’ve just been underground. What you’ve seen from me is only a #shadow of things to come… pic.twitter.com/3W9Rh728Tt— Sonic the Hedgehog (@SonicMovie) February 2, 2024 As for Carrey, the actor said back in April 2022 that he was very seriously considering retiring after Sonic the Hedgehog 2 unless something truly spectacular came along.”Well, I’m retiring,” Carrey said. “Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious. It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.”It’s a good thing too for both Carrey and Sonic fans that he came back as Neal Moritz and Toby Ascher, producers on the Sonic films, said they “wouldn’t even try” to replace Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik if he retired. As for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 itself, the film is set to speed into theaters on December 20, 2024. We still don’t know much about the movie, but these two reveals are helping for sure.In our Sonic the Hedgehog 2 review, we said it “Sonic the Hedgehog 2 improves upon its predecessor in many ways, while falling short in a few others. It feels more attuned to the Sonic lore than ever before, and fans of the games should have a great time seeing their favorite characters so lovingly recreated on the big screen. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are a ton of fun, as is Jim Carrey’s wonderfully over-the-top reprisal of Dr. Robotnik.”For more, check out Carrey on the evolution of Dr. Robotnik’s look in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie and the latest casting news for the upcoming Knuckles spin-off series.Have a tip for us?
