James Cameron, the mastermind behind the Titanic and Avatar, is planning to release Avatar 3 in 2025. Ahead of the movie’s launch, actor Zoe Saldaña has shared her thoughts on the work from Cameron and hyped up the movies beyond Avatar 3.
Saldana also revealed in an interview with Collider that the team is beginning work on Avatar 3 next week. The actor shared that Avatar 3 is “going to be amazing” and “it just gets crazy” in Avatar 4 and 5. She also spoke highly of the legendary director as she said, “He’s blown our mind. This is his legacy project. We all thought it was Titanic, and it turned out that Avatar is his legacy, and for us to be a part of something so groundbreaking and trailblazing, it’s like it’s a legacy for us, too.”
Avatar or Titanic?
It could be debatable for some, as to what can be considered Cameron’s legacy project, given the universal popularity of Titanic. When Titanic came out in 1997, it became the highest-grossing movie of all time when it earned $1.84 billion with its original release. As of 2024, the revenue is at $2.2 billion through several re-releases over the years and it is now in fifth position in the rankings.

However, it is not a stretch at all to claim that the actual legacy of Cameron will be Avatar. The movie came out in 2009 and it is still the highest-grossing movie of all time with $2.9 billion in revenue, besting Titanic at the box office by a distance. Apart from numbers, it is the future plans for Avatar, with three movies in the pipeline already, which makes it more likely that Cameron will be revered more for Avatar rather than Titanic.
