Some interesting news to emerge just ahead of launch though would be apparent leakers regarding the RTX 4090 Super. The 4090 is already best graphics card money can buy, so a Super edition would be unmatched in terms of performance. Reportedly, there could be delays to RTX 50 series GPUs, but it looks like Nvidia can fill that time with even more Super refreshed hardware. If you’re looking for a new high-end graphics card right now, perhaps waiting for the 4090 Super takes priority over the 4080 S. 2,295 MHz (base) / 2,550 MHZ (boost) RTX 4090 Super rumors As with all kinds of rumors and speculation, you have to take it with a pinch of salt. This particular information comes from Youtuber RedGamingTech, who looks at the possibility of an RTX 4090 Ti, Titan, or indeed the 4090 Super in future. They claim that the 50 series could be delayed until 2025 – we previously expected to see the second half of 2024 based on past launches. Rumors say that Nvidia are testing a new RTX 4090 Super variant as well. We’ve heard of rumors of a Ti edition too in the past, but a Super version makes more sense to us now that they’ve reintroduced this variant to the 40 series (we didn’t see any Supers in the 30 series). Another potential card to be based on the 4090’s AD102 chip could be a new RTX Titan, last seen back in 2018 as part of the 20 series line-up. As far as specs go, the rumored RTX 4090 Super could be getting 1,024 more CUDA cores, which is a rather low amount in the grand scheme of things but could show for a 10% performance boost. The new RTX Titan one-ups this with potentially 1,792 extra CUDA cores and a massive VRAM increase up to 48GB from the 4090’s 24GB. Should I buy the RTX 4080 Super or wait? Back when the originals released in late 2022, the 4090 overshadowed the 4080 given the latter’s poor price to performance ratio – lessons seem to have been learned though. The RTX 4080 Super still represents a powerful graphics card. We already know all about the RTX 4080 Super specs and the kind of performance boost to expect from it compared to the non-Super card. It isn’t a massive improvement over the original 4080, but the lower MSRP with $200 knocked off makes it a more appealing option in terms of value for money. It still doesn’t come close to the power of the RTX 4090, nor the supposedly upcoming 4090 Super, but it is nothing to scoff at. Nvidia’s new RTX 4080 Super practically replaces the non-Super; it will likely be the same case if a 4090 Super comes along. Waiting around is only really worth it if you want the best of the best, as the 4080 Super is still worth its weight for gaming and beyond.
