Dragons Unleashed Event Announced; Here Are Details on Rewards, Global Challenge, and Drampa’s Debut




Niantic is back with another Lunar New Year celebration for Pokemon GO players. The Dragon Unleashed event will kick off on February 5 at 10 am IST and ends on February 11 at 8 pm IST. Here’s everything players can look forward to during the event, including the debut of a new Pokemon in the game.

Drampa in Pokemon GO
Drampa, a normal/dragon-type Gen-7 Pokemon hailing from the Alola region, is making its debut in Pokemon GO. During the event, players can encounter the Pokemon and try to catch it to bolster their attacking line-up for Pokemon GO battles or simply add another collection for their Pokedex.

Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed will feature several Pokemon that will appear more frequently, such as Magikarp, Dratini, Shuckle, Fennekin, Skrelp, Niobat, and if you’re lucky, you can also run into a Jangmo-o.

Event rewards
During the event, here are the bonuses that will be active:

Increased chance for Lucky Pokemon in trades.
Increased chance to become Lucky Friends.
Additional Candy for catching Pokemon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws.
Increased chance for Trainers at level 31 and above to receive Candy XL for catching through the same Pokeball throws.

Field research tasks and Raids
There’s also a timed field research task and completing it will allow you to catch Druddigon, Deino, Skrelp, Tyrunt, Goomy, Turtonator, Drampa, Dratini, Trapinch, Swablu, Gible, and Darumaka. A paid timed research is also available to unlock rewards such as Stardust, XP, two lucky eggs, and encounters with event-themed Pokemon.

Pokemon GO players can also engage in limited-time raids, which will feature the following Pokemon:

One-star Raids: Dratini, Deino, and Goomy
Three-star Raids: Druddigon, Turtonator, and Drampa

Dragon Unleashed: Global Challenge
While all that is standard stuff for Pokemon GO events, there’s also a new global challenge for the entire community to participate in. If players around the world manage to throw 1 billion Nice Throws during the event, they will receive the following rewards till the event ends.

The first of those rewards will be evolving certain Pokemon during the event to teach them a new featured attack. The Pokemon have not been revealed yet, but there are 7 different Pokemon that can learn a different attack. Similarly, two Pokemon will be part of Raids that have not been revealed yet.
