Hazbin Hotel, Prime Video’s new adult animated musical comedy series produced by A24, officially has a premiere date: Jan. 19, 2024.Prime Video made the announcement on Monday, also revealing a few musically inclined guest stars. Broadway vets like Darren Criss (Saint Peter), Jeremy Jordan (Lucifer Morningstar), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Carmilla Carmine), Patina Miller (Sera), and Jessica Vosk (Lute) will be lending their voices in the first season, joining an already announced cast that includes Erika Henningsen, Stephanie Beatriz, Alex Brightman, Keith David, Kimiko Glenn, Blake Roman, Amir Talai, Christian Borle, and Joel Perez.Sam Haft (who’s also known for working on the songs in popular web series Helluva Boss) and Emmy-nominated songwriter/composer Andrew Underberg will contribute original music and lyrics to the Prime Video series.Hazbin Hotel is based on the animated pilot created by Vivienne Medrano. Medrano released the 30-minute episode on YouTube on 2019, where it quickly became a massive hit; it currently stands at 92 million views. That popularity led Prime Video to pick it up for a series this past September, ordering two seasons right off the bat. The move comes as the streaming platform continues to find success in the adult animated series arena, with shows like Invincible and The Legend of Vox Machina getting multiple seasons and dedicated fanbases.Per Prime Video’s official synopsis, “Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After a yearly extermination imposed by angels, she opens a hotel in the hopes that patrons will be ‘checking out’ into Heaven. While most of Hell mocks her goal, her devoted partner Vaggie, and their first test subject, adult-film star Angel Dust, stick by her side. When a powerful entity known as the ‘Radio Demon’ reaches out to assist Charlie in her endeavors, her crazy dream is given a chance to become a reality.”Alex Stedman is a Senior News Editor with IGN, overseeing entertainment reporting.
