One Piece Manga Gets Unfinished Chapter, Creator Eiichiro Oda Apologises

In an exceptionally rare event, the widely acclaimed manga series One Piece has issued an incomplete chapter, marking a first in its 26-year history. Published in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, where the manga is serialised, Chapter 1098 lacks its final line art and colouring, with an accompanying apology from creator Eiichiro Oda.

The absence of concluding details is attributed to “time constraints,” a recurring challenge in the demanding schedule of manga production. Instances of incomplete chapters have been noted before, typically arising from tight schedules leading up to the magazine’s publication deadline. Fans are expressing concerns and suggesting that Oda should be granted more breaks to alleviate the pressure and avoid rushed writing. Many argue that Oda, given his dedicated efforts, deserves a few months off, considering his historical health issues.

Chapter 1098 of One Piece will release in an unfinished state (some final lineart/coloring missing) due to time constraints. This has happened with other managaka previously in Shonen Jump due to their release schedule, and will likely be fixed in the volume release

Oda has even worked on the manga when he was hospitalised, and he continued to draw and work while in that state. Fans are just happy that he didn’t push himself to finish the chapter at any cost before the deadline for the chapter’s publication in the magazine.

The chapter was released in this unfinished state in the magazine, but will undergo completion with final touches in the next volume of the One Piece manga. For those following the series, the manga can be read on platforms like Manga Plus and Viz Media.
