A Newspaper for Indian Anime Enthusiasts

For years, the global anime community has revelled in the joy of flipping through glossy pages of dedicated magazines, immersing themselves in the vibrant artwork and insightful words found in them. However, Indian fans have long been deprived of this tangible connection to their beloved anime culture — until now.

Enter Anime Nadu News, a fan-run newspaper made by the anime community group Anime Nadu, who are determined to bridge the gap between Indian anime fans and the world of anime.

A cultural void filled
In a country where anime magazines were never a thing, Anime Nadu took matters into their own hands.

The group recognised this void and seized the opportunity to create a dedicated publication for Indian anime fans wanting a more tangible connection to their favourite anime series, characters, and creators.

Anime Nadu News delivers stories about anime, manga, games, and live-action adaptations from Japan. The publication includes sections dedicated to cosplayers, featuring interviews with them. It also showcases anime fan art from Indian artists and provides updates on anime conventions and events taking place in India.

‘For the weebs, by the weebs’
What sets Anime Nadu News apart is its origin. This is not a publication driven by corporate interests; rather, it is a labour of love fuelled by the passion of devoted anime fans. The project involves three individuals, with two serving as editors and one as the proofreader, all of whom are avid fans attuned to the community’s pulse.

From digital to tangible
In an era dominated by digital media, the decision to produce a physical newspaper may seem unconventional. However, Anime Nadu believes in the power of a tangible experience. The smell of ink on paper, the satisfaction of flipping through pages, and the joy of collecting and sharing — these elements, often lost in the digital realm, are part of the newspaper’s charm.

“Shougo Makishima from Psycho Pass S1 highlighted the significance of physical books over digital ones. I resonated with that perspective,” Anime Nadu’s SP Praveen said. He is the founder of the group and serves as the editor of the newspaper as well.

Magazine in the works
Not just a newspaper, it appears that Indian anime fans will soon have access to a proper magazine. Anime Nadu has confirmed, “Between the 6th and 8th editions of the newspaper, we have plans to launch a magazine featuring exclusive anime content, reviews, interviews, and a deeper analysis, also putting a spotlight on Indian comics and more.”

Interested readers can subscribe to Anime Nadu News either through Weebshop or on Anime Nadu’s Instagram.
